ABOUT US

People of faith acting on the command to “do justice” and workers organizing for a voice on the job have a long history of partnership in the U.S. In 1980, a time of plant closings and eroding rights of workers, this shared commitment to economic justice led to the creation of a volunteer association called the Labor-Religion Coalition. It was one of the first such associations in the country. On October 7, 2010, the LRC will celebrate its 30th Anniversary !

Since then the Labor-Religion Coalition of New York State has grown into a strong voice for dignity and justice, linking local affiliates across the state with innovative programs such as the annual 40-hour FAST.

While the Coalition believes that all workers have the right to union representation if they so choose, it does not represent or speak for any union. Similarly, the Coalition does not adhere to or promote the religious doctrine of any faith group.

The LRC works in partnership with social justice organizations across the state. For information about many of these groups, view A Working Inventory of New York State Social Justice and Social Change Organizations (2008, 96 pages, PDF). The Working Inventory includes each group's mission, structure, staff, projects and communications as well as contact information. It is divided into eight sections:

Statewide
Capital District
Hudson Valley
Westchester
Rochester/ Genesee Valley
Long Island
Binghamton, Elmira, Ithaca
Syracuse
