A message to those fasting from Rebecca Sutton
The Global Women's Exchange, a fair trade initiative
project of the Sisters of the Good Shepherd, works in cooperation
with women struggling for economic justice and independence in
the developing world. We support their efforts to empower themselves
by marketing their handcrafted goods and by raising awareness
of the situations they confront.
I have realized through my travels and visiting
women within our project, that not only do we need to keep in
mind the oppressed and marginalized, but we also need to pray
for those who use the poor to fulfill their own personal greed.
I ask each of you to pray with me the prayer you see above. It
was written in response to the anger I felt as I saw those less
fortunate being exploited in ways I never thought possible. May
you reflect and keep in mind this prayer as we all work together
to fight for a more just and equitable world.
