Workers' Memorial Day
Each year on
April 28, join us in honoring the workers who have been killed or injured
by continuing the fight for safe jobs. An article from the May 1, 2006 Legislative Gazette describes the 2006 event in Albany, NY.
Labor-Religion Coalition
affiliates participate in events across the state.
"What You Can Do on Workers' Memorial
Day" is available on the web site of the AFL-CIO.
It includes materials such as a collection of poems and tributes and fact sheets
about workplace injury and death.
The first Workers' Memorial
Day was observed in 1989. April 28 was chosen because it is the anniversary of
the Occupational Safety and Health Administration and of a similar
remembrance in Canada.

Still relevant are two collections
of printable materials published in 2002 by the New York State AFL-CIO in partnership
with the NYS Labor-Religion Coalition. One is for labor-religion representatives
and another for unions. Call us for information at 518/213-6000, ext. 6294.
